now that the 12 year olds have answered the question I will provide you with a real answer. The "stuff" that is sometimes in a belly button is just residue. It can be a few things. First, it could be soap that has driend (meaning that you DO was your belly button). It is soap and sweat that makes the smell. When you get out of the shower and you are toweling off clean your belly button with a Q-tip. If this doesn't help or only helps a little then use a Q-tip soaked in hydrogren peroxide to clean out after every shower. Very soon you will have a clean and fresh belly button.
Sometimes, it's a result of obesity but I'm not sure on the chemical reaction of what causes that.
I dont know about you but there aint nothing comeing out of my belly button!! wtf U MIGHT HAVE TO GET THAT CHECKED OUT....

you must have what is known as an inny=some people do have dirt in this area and all you have to remember is to use a q-tip and clean it out every day when you bath or shower

ummmm I never had that problem before, but then again, I dont go diggin in there and sniffin to see if it smells.
cause its probably made of lint, soap scum, dead skin, and countless bacteria. i would definitely add the bellybutton to your list of shower-to-dos
Believe it or not a lady asked this on oprah this week. It is possibly discharge from a infection.
I cannot stand this when boys have to put there fingers where they dont belong and then smell it. It is bad enough that they do not keep it to themselves, but why do they think that we care. This is so Gross!
The boys down the street said that he put his finger in his butt and now he has smelly butt finger.
