Lol ! We used to do the same thing as the bar of soap, but we used the tobacco from a cigarette under the armpit.
It only works if you're not a smoker though.

Lol.i graduated in 1970 but the trick we always used was putting a bar of soap under ones armpit and leaving it for at least 6 mins...hope it still works..
